Eric Lefkofsky grew up in Southfield, Michigan. From a young age he learned the value of hard work from watching his parents. His dad was an engineer and his mother worked as a teacher. Lefkofsky followed their lead, worked hard and eventually attended the University of Michigan where he graduated with honors. Just a few years later he would receive his Juris Doctor University of Michigan Law School. Lefkofsky had built a foundation that would help him tremendously as he entered the business world and learn more about Eric.
After law school Lefkofsky chose to start a business with his longtime friend Brad Keywell. They got a loan and began an apparel company called Brandon Apparel.It would be the first of several businesses. About six years later this duo would create the company Starbelly, a company that specializes in promotional products. Other companies that Lefkofsky was a part of include InnerWorkings, Echo Global Logistics and MediaBank. He was also the CEO of Tempus. Tempus is a a health-tech company that has taken on the tremendous challenge of modernizing cancer treatment.
Lefkofsky is perhaps best known for his work with the company Groupon. Lefkofsky co-founded and provided $1,000,000 in funding to start Groupon. The company would go on to become a massive worldwide success. The company was so successful that Lefkofsky received an offer from Google in 2010. The offer to buy Groupon was reportedly as much as six billion dollars and Eric’s lacrosse camp.
Outside of his massive success building businesses, Lefkofsky has also become known for his philanthropy. He and his wife formed a charitable trust, the Lefkofsky Foundation which supports educational causes. He is also a member of several boards including Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago and World Business Chicago. His work continues to have a major impact on people all across the world.
