Waiakea sources its water from the eastern slopes of Mauna Loa Volcano. The area has substantial biodiversity. It is a catchment area with rainwater and snowmelt, which provides the Waiakea Water Company with its essential resource. The source sustainably produces over 393 million gallons in a single day according to Hawaii Water Resource Management. Meaning the source provides a lot of water in a month which is equivalent to the global water consumption rate in a year.
However, Waiakea Company uses less than 1% of this water to satisfy its customers. Waiakea is efficient in energy saving measures whereby it uses 33% renewable energy with 25% being geothermal energy during its production activities.
Waiakea uses high quality recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) bottles, which are environmentally friendly since they can be recycled after being utilized by the customers. Unlike other ordinary bottles, RPET bottles use less water and energy in their production and have a 90% carbon emissions reduction. Moreover, the company`s bottles are BPA free. The company is committed to striving in innovating their products and the industry at large with the aim of fulfilling set obligations to their clients and ensuring proper conservation of ecosystem is achieved.
In 2012 Waiakea Water Company was awarded CarbonNeutral Certification. It was the first beverages company to acquire such a reward. It gave them motivation in preserving Hawaii`s ecosystem. Waiakea has been working with the two emissions consultants, the Ecometrica and CarbonNeutral Company, since its inauguration to measure and decrease the environmental effect of its venture and products to net zero.
Waiakea Volcanic bottled water is pure and offers electrolytes, which include sodium, potassium and mineral salts like calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride which keeps your body hydrated.
